The Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express commenced its services from the West Bengal capital Kolkatta on 14 April and got held for few minutes in Nadia region. This incident took place because some citizens who sat on its railway path challenging rehabilitation of Bangladeshs people in exile. The train was held near Aranghata in the Ranaghat.
The people who were protecting the train came down but did not use any harsh means or force as the unlawful resident themselves removed the barrier and the train recommenced its journey. While Eastern Railways sources previously said that the unlawful resident belonged to the ‘Amra Bangalee’ crowd, the police force say they were campaigners of the Nikhil Banga Nagarik Sangha. A large group of people have been supposedly detained for jamming the course of the train.
This train facility was made to continue between India and Bangladesh after an extensive period of good 43 years. A swarm of Indian ministers like External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad etc were there at the Kolkata railway workstation in north Kolkata for the inaugration ceremony of this train.
Maitree Express is a passenger train with six coaches that will go back and forth from Dhaka in Bangladesh to Kolkata in West Bengal (India). Maitree Express will leave from Kolkata on Saturdays and Sundays at 7.10 am arriving Dhaka at 10.30 pm. From Dhaka, it will depart at 8.30 am and will arrive at Kolkata at 9 pm. While the Indian rake can adjust about 368 travelers, the Bangladeshi can manage to take 418 passengers.
This particular service intend to make possible trouble-free association between the two countries after a span 43 years.
“The service will reinforce people to people connection of the two bordering countries,” Contact consultant of the provisional Bangladeshi cabinet, Golam Kader said as railway officers welcomed the travelers with flowers.
The temporary government’s consultant for foreign, commerce and local government ministries, overseas representative, including Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, and additional higher-ranking officers be present at the initiation of the service.
Overseas advice-giver Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said the train was predicted to be a ‘goodwill representative for both the countries as associations between the two neighbors now arrived at a fresh path.
Railway officials also opened up that they were forced to connect an extra compartment to the train owing to the high requirement of tickets for the initial journey.
The final coming together was signed by Bangladesh and India for restarting the Dhaka-Kolkata trail when the cabinets of the two countries endorsed the deal.
